What is the Coding with LEGO® program?

Coding with LEGO® is a fun and innovative program that combines the well known playful blocks with easy-to-use hardware and an intuitive coding software to create hands-on purposeful play. Participants collaborate with a partner in using their creativity, critical-thinking, and problem solving skills.

Coding at home!

  • Scratch : Scratch is a high-level, block-based visual programming language and website aimed primarily at children as an educational tool, with a target audience of ages 8 to 16. Users on the site can create projects on the website using a block-like interface. If you would like to join the Alameda Free Library Scratch Studio please email Fernanda Nuñez (fnunez@alamedaca.gov) for a Scratch account sign up link!

  • Scratch Jr : Scratch Jr is a visual programming language designed to introduce programming skills to children ages 5–7. The app is considered an introductory programming language.

  • Code.org / Hour of Code : Code.org is a non-profit organization and educational website aimed at K-12 students that specializes in computer science. The website includes free coding lessons and other resources.
